I’m planning a holiday to the east coast of USA and I need suggestions!?
I am coming over to the States for the first time. I am flying to Charlottesville, Virginia and I am planning on driving to New York City for a few days.
Can anyone suggest some good spots along the way to stop off at. Also I have been advised to maybe stay in Newark and travel to New York City (by train?). Would this be a good idea from the direction that I will be coming from.
Thank you in advance!
Andy
There are several wineries in the Northern Virginia area that you will pass near on your way to NY, you may want to stop by one or two of them. Washington DC has some great museums, especially those that are part of the Smithsonian institute, which are free admission. Baltimore’s Inner Habor is a really great place to visit, it has the Baltimore Aquarium, the science museum, fort McHenry, lots of restaurants, the water taxi will take you to the Fells Point neighborhood which has alot of neat shops and pubs and such. Philadelphia has some interesting American History, the constitution center, the liberty bell, and Constitution hall all are there, and you have to have a Philly Cheesesteak while you are there, as well as have a go at the steps made famous by Rocky. Just north of NYC is the catskill mountians, and some great hiking. One of my favorites is Lake Minnewaska, there is hiking, rock climbing, swimming and beautiful views.
If you want a cheaper hotel, Newark would be a good place to stay, but it will be a short trip into the city. If you can afford it, I would recommend staying in the city. I it wildly expensive to park a car in NYC, it might be cheaper to park in long term parking at Newark Airport and take the train into the city, since you won’t need your car while you are in the city, the mass transportation is good, or taxi rides are relatively cheap.
