is it possible to harvest electricity from methane economically in a 160 unit residential condominium?

the residential condominium is in a tropical country
i am wondering if methane can be an economical source of alternative electricity to supply a certain percentage of the total electricity needs of the buildings to significantly lower the bills?
and if this is possible…how will i do it?

I don’t believe this is possible and will save you any significant money. The cost of methane is about the same as Nuclear produced electricity, and it now is becoming more scarce, and companies and goverments are trying to get AWAY from it’s use.

If by a very remote chance you had a small savings, it would take beyond your lifetime to make up the cost of changing the entire 160 units over to a system where methane can be piped in properly and safely. One improperly converted unit could cause a death, and then you will be sued and your lifelong savings and future income willl be wiped out. The risk is too great. So, since that is not going to help you, please take a look at the big picture here.

Honestly, even though my family has been involved in the big electric energy industry for generations, the use of burning methane (carbon based products) is directly contributing to global warming, which is destroying our ozone layer. It’s creating havoc on the environment ALREADY, in less than 200 years of mass use of carbon products.

It is a limited supply commodity. We are all, individually responsible for trying to reduce the burning of fossil fuels, even you. If every 160 unit owner used cleaner burning, and safer standards in nuclear energy, we could drastically reduce the greenhouse effects that our children and grandchildren will have to urgently deal with in order to save the planet, literally.

This is not a “theory” anymore…it’s real, and it’s up to you to play your part in not damaging the earth any further. The oceans temperature is up by 2-6 degrees permanently, and although you may not think that is a lot, think about the fact that the permanently frozen Northern Arctic Passage is now completely open for shipping for the first time in history. That takes a lot of warming over a long time to do this and we did it by increasing the water temp by allowing more sunlight rays and energy through the ozone layer by using methane, as an example.
Personally, look ahead…see the vision……
How would you like your own great, great grandchildren (or your family’s) faced with starvation and death, stealing for food, increased crime caused by the need to eat, all because a huge amount of renewable available food sources (plant, land and sea animals) has been wiped out because the earth’s environment changed in the entire ecosystem and “circle of life”?????

O.K., back to your needs. :)
Best way to save money?
Invest in the MOST energy efficient appliances you find and replace them. Whether it’s air conditioner units, stoves, refridgerators, hot water heaters, pumps..whatever the “certain percentage” is that you are responsible for, the new most energy efficient ones use only A FRACTION of the energy of the old outdated ones!!!

You will see an immediate savings the VERY next month, and be able to recoup your expenditure in very little time. Look up some case studies on this. Even basic homeowners can save up to 3/4 of the money they spend by changing out their appliances and related wiring or pumps (and florescent light bulbs!) to the most energy efficient ones.
Hope this helps in your decision making!
