What is the best defence against sand flies and mosquitos in the Domincan Republic?
I have read loads of reviews about the Golden Beach Holiday Village at Playa Dorada in the Dominican Republic and many mention getting numerous bites from sand flies and mosquitos, especially after the rains (I may be going in October, so very rainy!).
Here in Scotland, Avon “skin so soft” products work a treat against our very annoying midgies, but what works best in the Dominican Republic against the flying biting insects?!
Citronella is very good but because of it’s strength the best thing to do is mix with either your daily moisturiser or sun protection (my friend used it neat and came out in some really nasty rashes). The other option is wait until you get there and buy local products, when I travel I use OFF which is sold in most pharmacists and supermarkets. When you go out in the evenings try to stay away from still water as the mosquito’s love them. Enjoy your trip
