How clean has to be the rental vacation property when we leave it?

Hello everyone.

I would like to ask the opinion of people re ‘How clean has the tenant leave the summer vacation property’.

We just came back from short term beach vacation where we rented the vacation house. The landlord is charging us extra $125 to clean the property. When we left we did leave little sand in the house, 2 dirty dishes on the table and a small garbage can with the garbage.
According to the contract through the real estate agency we were supposed to leave the house in ‘as clean condition as reasonable use will permit’. This is not the same as the condition we found the apartment in when we moved into it. Of cause the ‘reasonable use’ is the matter of opinion however I think that the payment fee which we are paying for the rental vacation home should provide us with some extra freedom from cleaning. What do you people think?

Thank you

I am sure you are fine, I own a vacation rental and I know this is acceptable.

San Diego-How’s Mission Beach and/or Oceanside?

We’re planning a trip to San Diego in March. We’re looking at a condo at Mission Beach and one in Oceanside. Both are on the beach, but I don’t know anything about these areas.

1) How’s the area around Mission Beach?

2) How’s Oceanside?

I don’t want to end up renting a beautiful condo that is in an awful area where is gross, disgusting, and where I wouldn’t want to take my kids.

Any insights anyone has would be welcome.
Betty B: thanks for the quick reply! Do you have any other suggestions for a vacation in the San Diego area? We have two 7 year olds, and want to be near lots of fun!

If you get in the southern end of Oceanside on the beach, or in Carlsbad or Encinitas I think you’d be happy. I live in Encinitas and so maybe I’m a little prejudiced, but Moonlight Beach in Encinitas is very family friendly, a bit off the beaten track, and Encinitas is a funky beach town with fun places to eat. And only a few minutes drive from Legoland in Carlsbad…heaven for your little ones and fun for you too.

Mission Beach is ok but more for the young adult crowd. Lots of drinking going on in the area. The city council just voted to ban alcohol on that beach because of Labor Day rioting by a bunch of drunk hostile 20somethings. Even though the alcohol ban just went thru, there’s lots of bars nearby and people will still be drunk around there (and most of the rentals in the area attract the drinking crowd), so stay away from rentals in the boardwalk area.

I’d recommend the south Oceanside-Carlsbad-Encinitas corridor for a beachside rental. All very family friendly and a low key casual atmosphere, and near Legoland. Carlsbad also has a factory outlet mall…high end…and the flower fields which might not be quite blooming yet…depends on the weather. Also the Museum of Making Music.

Also you might look into what Coronado might offer if you can afford the Hotel Del Coronado. Great beach for the kiddies and a very safe place. Also very central as just a quick drive over the bridge and you’re in downtown San Diego near the zoo and Balboa Park.

Paradise Point Resort, while in the Mission Beach/Pacific Beach area, is in a fairly self-enclosed area that is all about kids…you might check them out. They are also close to Seaworld.

Girlfriend coming home tomorrow after vacation…?

So my girlfriend is finally coming home from vacation and I totally want to surprise her. I had the idea of decorating her room. I wanted to put streamers above her door that starts red than pink and so on and I’m gonna spell out in white streamers “I Love You.” Than I was going to hang hearts from her ceiling all over her room..And than I’m going to have Glow in the Dark Star on her ceiling that spell out “I Love You” when it’s dark…

Thats all I can think of..I want to “WOW” her..Anyone else have ideas?
Well I’m 19 and so is she. Does that help? I think of romantic things that seem kind of kidish i guess?
I was thinking of also blowing up balloons and inside like letters and notes and some other things

once when I came home from vacation, my boyfriend had left clues I had to follow around the house, leading to love notes and chocolate and then he sprinkled rose petals all over my bed. I thought that was really sweet.

your idea sounds a bit wacky, but in a good way. especially if youre too young for the rose petal idea ;) .

you could get a bouquet of flowers (doesnt have to be roses, those are cliche anyway) and put them in a vase by her bed or wherever she’ll see them. you could also get her lots of balloons, like heart shaped balloons. as many flowers as you can afford will add to the wow factor, plus it’ll make the room smell awesome and streamers are just like a bunch of garbage that shes going to have clean up and cant really keep up for long. the star idea is really clever. I’d keep them a secret and let her find out later on her own. maybe put some of her favorite candy under her pillow too.
if you are too broke to buy flowers you pick her wildflowers, or do that in addition to. you could drape the streamers around her room in loops, like around the border against the wall. you could get a picture of the two of you together like a big one and frame it with a lovey dovey frame and sign it I love you ___. or I will love you forever. or forever love, your name you could have music ready to start playing as she walks in, or just have it playing, like her favorite band, or your song, or just romantic music. you could have a pair of tickets of a good band waiting on her bed for her, or a poster of something she likes on her wall. you could bake her something if you are broke, like choc chip cookies maybe get some pink chips for them, or sugar cookies shaped as hearts. you design a collage of you two together, like a picture of you and a bunch of hearts and cut out words and like the date you got together and have it say I love you and put other cutesy stuff on there. (you could visit a scrapbooking store for supplies and use old magazines) ummmm… you could get her some jewelry, or write her a love poem or just simply a love note and read it to her or leave it under her pillow or something. just brainstorming. hope I helped at least a little. good job trying to be the man every girl wishes she had! never stop trying!!!!!!
