the best way to get to the statue of libertty?

I’m on vacation in NY and staying in East Village –
I don’t wanna go on tours – prefer to be flexible with my time

If you are following what I think is good advice by taking the Staten Island ferry for free you can also get there by Subway, which is not subject to traffic congestion which can be significant by taking the downtown #4 or #5 train from union Square, 14th street and Broadway, or the #6 from B’way and Astor place (around 8th street) to Brooklyn bridge and changing to the #4 or #5 across the platform and taking that down to Bowling Green. Follow signs for the ferry. Round trip on the ferry is free and will take just a little over an hour. The Liberty Island ferry is about $12 per person and will tie you up for a lot more than that and I doubt that you will really get to see a whole lot more, anyway.

Economical places to stay in Florida Keys?

I am planning a one-week vacation in the Florida Keys and Miami area. What are some economical options? B&B’s run from $200 US…any suggestions?

I live right near the three mile stretch that is the entrance to the keys and once you pass that you can find places stretched along the road to Key West. The farther you get to Key West the more expensive it gets and it could take months to get a reservation, especially now that folks are running down here to escape the cold.
