John Wayne was in the early stages of superstardom when this lavish Cecil B. DeMille adventure was produced in 1942, so it's interesting to see the Duke in a heroic supporting role as opposed to the commanding one. Here he's on equal footing with Ray Milland in the romantic lead; they play a pair of dashing yet wildly different characters who've both fallen for a feisty Southern belle played by P...

Literary Sands of Key West
$8.86
A walking tour through the tropical island-town that has attracted writers as diverse as John Dos Passos, Robert Frost, Truman Capote, and Jimmy Buffett.
My fiance and I have narrowed it down to 2 options for our wedding. 1-Caladesi Island State Park or 2-Siesta Key Park. If we have it at Caladesi which is my favorite choice we’ll need to stay in nearby Clearwater and if we go with option number 2, we’ll have to stay on Siesta Key(obviously). So, which one is a better choice for not only the wedding but the honeymoon as well?!?! We want beautiful blue waters perfect for swimming, white sand and not heavily crowded. I’ve heard many good things about Siesta key but I like Caladesi Island better. Is there really a big difference between Clearwater beach and Siesta Key beach? Which is better for sightseeing? Which is less crowded? Less crime? and I’ve looked at so many condo’s on VRBO I’m going crosseyed! Do you have any recommendations for rentals? We’re getting married in June. Please only Florida residents or frequent visitors answer. We’re really stuck and need your help!!! Thanks!
If you want to avoid everyone, pick Caladesi, but away from the docks and nearby “tourist” beach. Access to the island is ONLY by private boat, regular ferry, or a VERY LONG walk across the pass at low tide. There’s absolutely nothing to see on the island besides native habitat (see the warning signs about tropical critters), but it’s great for sea-shelling. As for the honeymoon, nearby Clearwater Beach is fairly safe and very popular for beachy activities and boating. Besides the night scene, that’s it for sightseeing at Clearwater Beach. During June, it’s busy…with schools letting out that month.
Down the coast, Siesta Key Park is really just the big public beach on the island. On a June weekend, it can be busy and parking can be hell at the public beach. There’s nothing to see on Siesta either, but overall, it’s much quieter than Clearwater Beach and it’s also safe.
Without a doubt, the water is a MUCH MUCH nicer blue at Siesta. The sands are bright everywhere, but not quite as white as the quartz sand up in Pensacola and Panama City. Beware of seagrass occasionally washing onshore during the summer. That stuff can dirty up the water and beach really quick.
A final thought. June is the average start of the Florida rainy season, so cross your fingers with an outdoor wedding. Sometimes the wet season starts late, sometimes it’s early.
I’d get crosseyed too with the multitudes of rentals, so I can’t help much there.
