The charming seaside village of Salema in located within the Costa Vincentina natural park in the Western Algarve about half way between Lagos and Sagres the most westerly point in Europe.
So what makes Salema so special?
1) A picturesque village with special charm
A small but beautiful village, Salema is still mainly populated by Portuguese with narrow lanes, little white cottages, and main square where you can buy fresh bread, fruit and fresh fish every day.
2) An indigenous small fishing fleet
This tiny village is one of those rare beach communities where you can sit and watch the beautiful brightly coloured boats launched every dawn (today with the help of a little red tractor) to catch sea bass, bream, mackerel and sardines.
3) Beautiful and unspoilt beach
The beautiful and gently sloping beach is perfect for families with children wanting to ensure safety and for those who want to be far from the madding crowd. On an average summer day the beach still feels deserted but don’t take our word for it, see for yourself using the village beach web cam.
4) Restaurants offering mouth-watering fresh fish
The three main restaurants in the village offer a wide choice of freshly cooked fish and local dishes including Cataplana, grilled sardines and chicken piri piri and two offer fantastic views out over the Atlantic. There are a few small bars but village evenings are just as peaceful and tranquil as during the day.
5) Local Leisure Resort
For those wanting to venture outside the village there is a nearby 5 star golf and leisure resort called Parque da Floresta, with luxurious spa, 18 hole course, pools, tennis courts and much more.
