villas in ayia napa
Is Ayia Napa a good holiday destination?

My daughter is 17 and is going away with seven girl friends in late August to Cyprus. They’re staying outside of the centre of Ayia Napa.

Is the nightlife good? Will it be safe for them? Any tips on going on holiday there would be appreciated.

They’re going for a week and they’re staying in a self-catering villa so will have to buy all food etc. How much money would you recommend that they each take with them? They’re hoping it’s not too pricey – anything they can save on?

Thanks.
And will they need ID for clubs?

Napa is extremely safe, and is a great place for a holiday. If they are staying in self catering accommodation, then I recommend that they catch a bus to Paralimni ( buses are regular, and fairly cheap…..anyone will point them in the right direction, and go shopping at one of the big supermarkets; Carrefour, or Kokkinos….much cheaper than shopping in the supermarkets in the resorts. Beware though, Cyprus isn’t cheap anymore, since changing over to the Euro, life here has become quite expensive…..you have to remember that we are an island, and therefore, most stuff has to be imported, and then dustributed, which, of course, adds to cost. Most fresh foodstuff is relatively cheap though……so you can put a meal together fairly cheaply. You must remember though that we dont have many GM foods, and therefore, fruit and stuff only lasts a couple of days!

Yes, they may need I.D. in some of the clubs. As I said before, Cyprus is a very safe place, and as they are going as a fairly large group, that again is in their favour.

Napa has a great selection of bars, restaurants and clubs, and also has some great beaches; Nisis Beach, Makronnisoss Beach….all good….and Napa also has one of the largest water parks in Europe too!

Might also be worth getting a bus and visiting Protaras, just a short drive away…..again, a great selection of bars and restaurants, and some great beaches too.

August can be very busy here though, as most Cypriots take the month off for their holiday to avoid the heat!!

I’m sure they’ll have a great time!!

One other tip; bring a small amount of Euros out with you….and then change the rest of your money when you get here…..you will get a much better rate of exchange.
